Cumberland County is one of the 102 county of Illinois, located towards the Midwestern Region (East North Central) of United States. As per the 2000 census, county has a population of 11253 inhabitants. In July 2008, its estimated population was 10846, It is Illinois's 16th least populous county. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 347 sq mi (898.73 sq km), of which, 346.02 square miles (896.19 sq km) of it is land and 0.98 square miles (2.54 sq km) of it is water, makes it the 18th smallest by total area in Illinois.

As of the census of 2000, there were 11253 people, 4368 households, and 3085 families living in the county. The population density was 32.5 people per square mile (12.55/kmē), it is the 27th least populated county in terms of population density. There were 4876 housing units at an average density of 14.1 per square mile (5.44/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.55 persons, and the average family size was 3.06 persons. In the county Population was distributed with 26.4% under the age of 18, 8% from 18 to 24, 27.5% from 25 to 44, 22.2% from 45 to 64, and 15.8% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 95.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.3 males. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 10846, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 10700 White, 36 Black or African American, 23 American Indian, 17 Asian, 2 Native Hawaiian, and 68 from two or more races.
