Cross County is a one of the county from Arkansas's 75 counties, located in Southern Region (West South Central) of United States. The population of county in 2000 stood at 19526 as per the Census data. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 18808, It is the 39th largest county by population in the U.S. state of Arkansas. It has total area of 622.33 mi˛ (1611.83 square kilometre), of which, 615.85 square miles (1595.04 square kilometre) of it is land and 6.49 square miles (16.81 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 49th largest by area in the U.S. state of Arkansas.

As of the census of 2000, there were 19526 people in the county, organized into 7391 households, and 5447 families residing in the county. The population density was 31.7 people per square mile (12.24/km˛), it is 34th most densely populated county in Arkansas. There were 8030 housing units at an average density of 13 per square mile (5.02/km˛). The average household size was 2.6 persons, and the average family size was 3.07 persons. In the county the population was spread out, with 27.8% under the age of 18, 8.5% from 18 to 24, 27.4% from 25 to 44, 22.6% from 45 to 64, and 13.7% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 94 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 89.4 males. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 18808, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 75.37% White, 23.13% Black or African American, 0.31% American Indian, 0.36% Asian, 0.01% Native Hawaiian, and 0.83% from two or more races.
