Crockett County, Texas is a county located in the Southern Region (West South Central) of United States. As of 2000 the population was 4099. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 3802, making it Texas's 42nd smallest county. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 2807.43 mi˛ (7271.21 square kilometre), of which, 2807.42 square miles (7271.18 square kilometre) of it is land and 0.01 square miles (0.03 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the eighth largest by area in the U.S. state of Texas.

As of the census of 2000, there were 4099 people, 1524 households, and 1114 families residing in the county. The population density was 1.5 people per square mile (0.58/km˛), making it the 15th least densely populated county in Texas. There were 2049 housing units at an average density of 0.7 per square mile (0.27/km˛). The average household size was 2.65 and the average family size was 3.19. In the county the population was distributed as follows: 28.9% under the age of 18, 7.1% from 18 to 24, 26.4% from 25 to 44, 24.7% from 45 to 64, and 12.9% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 98.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 97.6 males. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 3802, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 96.82% White, 1.08% Black or African American, 1.1% American Indian, 0.26% Asian, 0.16% Native Hawaiian, and 0.58% from two or more races.
