It has total area of 370.95 sq mi (960.76 kmē), of which, 362.14 square miles (937.94 kmē) of it is land and 8.81 square miles (22.82 kmē) of it is water, it is the 41st largest by area in the U.S. state of Kentucky.

In the county the population was spread out, with 23.2% under the age of 18, 8% from 18 to 24, 26.1% from 25 to 44, 26.4% from 45 to 64, and 16.3% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 106.6 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 108.1 females.
