Crawford County is one of the 102 county of Illinois, located towards the Midwestern Region (East North Central) of United States. In 2000, the population was 20452. Its population was estimated at 19555 in July 2008, making it the 58th most populous county in Illinois. The county spans an area of 445.74 sq mi (1154.46 kmē), of which, 443.53 square miles (1148.74 kmē) of it is land and 2.2 square miles (5.7 kmē) of it is water, making it Illinois's 64th largest county by total area.

In the county the population is diverse age-wise, with 22.8% under the age of 18, 8.6% from 18 to 24, 28.9% from 25 to 44, 23% from 45 to 64, and 16.6% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 107.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 106.5 males. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 19555, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 18306 White, 965 Black or African American, 62 American Indian, 68 Asian, 2 Native Hawaiian, and 152 from two or more races.
