Crawford County is one of the 75 county of Arkansas, located towards the Southern Region (West South Central) of United States. As of 2000 the population was 53247. The July 2008 population estimate is 59682, giving it the 13th largest population among Arkansas's county. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 604.2 square miles (1564.87 kmē), of which, 595.39 square miles (1542.05 kmē) of it is land and 8.81 square miles (22.82 kmē) of it is water, it is the 17th smallest by area in the U.S. state of Arkansas.

The population density was 89.4 people per square mile (34.52/kmē), it is the tenth most densely populated county in the U.S. state of Arkansas. The population's age distribution was 28.2% under the age of 18, 8.4% from 18 to 24, 29.3% from 25 to 44, 22.8% from 45 to 64, and 11.3% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 97.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.2 males. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 59682, The racial makeup of the county was 55479 White, 877 Black or African American, 1250 American Indian, 752 Asian, 17 Native Hawaiian, and 1307 from two or more races.
