Craven County is a county in the United States of North Carolina. It is home to over 91436 people (2000 census). It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 96892, giving it the 28th largest population among North Carolina's county. The county encompasses an area of 774.14 sq mi (2005.01 sq km ), of which, 708.43 square miles (1834.83 sq km) of it is land and 65.72 square miles (170.21 sq km) of it is water, it is the 16th largest by area in the U.S. state of North Carolina.

The population density was 129.1 people per square mile (49.85/kmē), making it the 42nd most densely populated county in North Carolina. There were 38150 housing units at an average density of 53.9 per square mile (20.81/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.5 persons, and the average family size was 2.93 persons. The population's age distribution was 24.6% under the age of 18, 12.8% from 18 to 24, 27.9% from 25 to 44, 21.2% from 45 to 64, and 13.4% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 101.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 101.5 males. In July 2008, its estimated population was 96892, The racial makeup of the county was 72.75% White, 23.76% Black or African American, 0.44% American Indian, 1.33% Asian, 0.08% Native Hawaiian, and 1.64% from two or more races.
