Cranston City is a city located in Providence County, Rhode Island, in the Northeastern Region (New England) of United States. In 2000, the population was 79269. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 79980, It is the third largest in terms of population. Its area is just over 29.93 square miles (77.52 square kilometre), of which, 28.57 square miles (74 square kilometre) of it is land and 1.36 square miles (3.52 square kilometre) of it is water, making it the second largest by size in Rhode Island. It is ranks ninth in the size of its inland waterways in Rhode Island.

The population density was 2774.6 people per square mile (1071.28/kmē), making its Rhode Island's 11th most densely populated city.
