Craighead County is a county located in Arkansas, in the Southern Region (West South Central) of United States. According to the 2000 census it had a population of 82148 inhabitants. The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 92640, It is the eighth most populous county in the U.S. state of Arkansas. The county spans an area of 712.98 miē (1846.61 kmē), of which, 710.84 square miles (1841.07 kmē) of it is land and 2.14 square miles (5.54 kmē) of it is water, it is the 31st largest by area in the U.S. state of Arkansas.

As of the census of 2000, there were 82148 people in the county, organized into 32301 households, and 22100 families living in the county. The population density was 115.6 people per square mile (44.63/kmē), it is the seventh most densely populated county in the U.S. state of Arkansas. There were 35133 housing units at an average density of 49.4 per square mile (19.07/kmē). The average household size was 2.46 and the average family size was 2.96. In the county the population is diverse age-wise, with 24.1% under the age of 18, 14% from 18 to 24, 28.7% from 25 to 44, 21.4% from 45 to 64, and 11.8% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 93.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 90.5 males. In July 2008, its estimated population was 92640, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 80090 White, 10535 Black or African American, 327 American Indian, 639 Asian, 19 Native Hawaiian, and 1030 from two or more races.
