As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 101254, It is the 12th largest county by population in the U.S. state of Washington. It covers total area of 1166.33 sq mi (3020.78 sq km), of which, 1138.64 square miles (2949.06 sq km) of it is land and 27.69 square miles (71.72 sq km) of it is water, making it Washington's 11th smallest county by total area.

As of the census of 2000, there were 92948 people in the county, organized into 35850 households, and 25056 families living in the county. The population density was 81.6 people per square mile (31.51/kmē), making it the tenth most densely populated county in Washington. There were 38624 housing units at an average density of 33.9 per square mile (13.09/kmē). The average household size was 2.55 and the average family size was 3.01. In the county Population was distributed with 26.8% under the age of 18, 8.3% from 18 to 24, 27.5% from 25 to 44, 24.1% from 45 to 64, and 13.3% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 98.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 95.8 males. In July 2008, its estimated population was 101254, The racial makeup of the county was 93.63% White, 0.74% Black or African American, 1.67% American Indian, 1.36% Asian, 0.16% Native Hawaiian, and 2.44% from two or more races.
