Covington County is one of the 82 county of Mississippi, located towards the Southern Region (East South Central) of United States. As per the 2000 census, county has a population of 19407 inhabitants. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 20526, giving it the 49th largest population among Mississippi's county. The county spans an area of 414.94 sq mi (1074.69 kmē), of which, 413.79 square miles (1071.71 kmē) of it is land and 1.15 square miles (2.98 kmē) of it is water, it is the ninth smallest by area in the U.S. state of Mississippi.

In the county Population was distributed with 28.8% under the age of 18, 9.6% from 18 to 24, 27.3% from 25 to 44, 21.2% from 45 to 64, and 13% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 92.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 90.4 males. The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 20526, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 12803 White, 7526 Black or African American, 27 American Indian, 27 Asian, 3 Native Hawaiian, and 140 from two or more races.
