Costilla County, Colorado is a county of the United States of Colorado. The county has a population of 3663 as per the 2000 census data. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 3232, It is eighth least populous county in Colorado. It has total area of 1230.44 square miles (3186.82 sq km), of which, 1227.1 square miles (3178.17 sq km) of it is land and 3.34 square miles (8.65 sq km) of it is water, it is the 38th largest in terms of geographical size.

As of the census of 2000, there were 3663 residents, 1503 households, and 1030 families in the county. The population density was 3 people per square mile (1.16/kmē), making its Colorado's 14th least densely populated county. There were 2202 housing units at an average density of 1.8 per square mile (0.69/kmē). The average household size was 2.44 persons, and the average family size was 2.98 persons. In the county the population is diverse age-wise, with 25% under the age of 18, 6.6% from 18 to 24, 23.3% from 25 to 44, 28.3% from 45 to 64, and 16.8% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 99.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 96.2 males. The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 3232, The racial makeup of the county was 2953 White, 34 Black or African American, 123 American Indian, 29 Asian, 14 Native Hawaiian, and 79 from two or more races.
