Cortland County is a county located in New York, in the Northeastern Region (Mid-Atlantic) of United States. Cortland County had an official population of 48599 in 2000. In July 2008, its estimated population was 48302, It is New York's 11th least populous county. It covers total area of 501.52 sq mi (1298.93 kmē), of which, 499.65 square miles (1294.09 kmē) of it is land and 1.87 square miles (4.84 kmē) of it is water, it is the 18th smallest in terms of geographical size.
