Cortland County is a county located in New York, in the Northeastern Region (Mid-Atlantic) of United States. Cortland County had an official population of 48599 in 2000. It covers total area of 501.52 sq mi (1298.93 kmē), of which, 499.65 square miles (1294.09 kmē) of it is land and 1.87 square miles (4.84 kmē) of it is water, it is the 18th smallest in terms of geographical size.
