Cornell City is a city in the Chippewa County, Wisconsin, United States. Cornell City had an official population of 1466 in 2000. The city's estimated population as of July 2008 was 1385, It is the 293rd largest in terms of population. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 4.35 square miles (11.27 square kilometre), of which, 3.83 square miles (9.92 square kilometre) of it is land and 0.51 square miles (1.32 square kilometre) of it is water, making it the 147th largest by size in Wisconsin.

According to 2000 Census Bureau, there were 1466 residents, 76 households, and 48 families in the city. The population density was 382.6 people per square mile (147.72/kmē), making its Wisconsin's 127th least densely populated city. There were 652 housing units at an average density of 170.2 per square mile (65.71/kmē). The average household size was 2.34 persons, and the average family size was 2.89 persons. In the city the population was spread out, with 26.5% under the age of 18, 5.9% from 18 to 24, 24.8% from 25 to 44, 21.1% from 45 to 64, and 21.8% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 109.1 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 124.1 females. The median age of the city's population was 39.1 years, the median age of male residents at 36.3 and the median age of female residents at 42.9. The racial makeup of the city was 98.5% White, 0% Black or African American, 0.95% American Indian, 0.27% Asian, 0.07% Native Hawaiian, 0.14% from two or more races and 0.07% Other races.
