Cooper County is a one of the county from Missouri's 115 counties and independent city, located in Midwestern Region (West North Central) of United States. In 2000, county's population was 16670 inhabitants. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 17535, It is 63rd most populous county in Missouri. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 570.22 mi˛ (1476.86 sq km), of which, 565.03 square miles (1463.42 sq km) of it is land and 5.19 square miles (13.44 sq km) of it is water, making it Missouri's 62nd largest county by total area.

As of the census of 2000, there were 16670 people, 5932 households, and 4139 families residing in the county. The population density was 29.5 people per square mile (11.39/km˛), making its Missouri's 60th most densely populated county. There were 6676 housing units at an average density of 11.8 per square mile (4.56/km˛). The average household size was 2.46 people, and the average family size was 2.97 people. Age range in the county was well distributed with 22.8% under the age of 18, 14% from 18 to 24, 27.4% from 25 to 44, 20.6% from 45 to 64, and 15.2% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 117.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 120 males. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 17535, The racial makeup of the county was 15658 White, 1541 Black or African American, 67 American Indian, 44 Asian, 4 Native Hawaiian, and 221 from two or more races.
