Conejos County is a county located in Colorado, in the Western Region (Mountain) of United States. Conejos County had an official population of 8400 in 2000. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 8067, It is the 40th largest county by population in the U.S. state of Colorado. It is spread over 1290.87 mi˛ (3343.34 square kilometre), of which, 1287.22 square miles (3333.88 square kilometre ) of it is land and 3.65 square miles (9.45 square kilometre) of it is water, makes it the 35th largest by total area in Colorado.

As of the census of 2000, there were 8400 people in the county, organized into 2980 households, and 2211 families living in the county. The population density was 6.5 people per square mile (2.51/km˛), making its Colorado's 39th most densely populated county. There were 3886 housing units at an average density of 3 per square mile (1.16/km˛). The average household size was 2.8 persons, and the average family size was 3.33 persons. In the county Age distribution was 32.1% under the age of 18, 8.5% from 18 to 24, 23.6% from 25 to 44, 20.8% from 45 to 64, and 15% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 98.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 98.1 males. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 8067, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 96.13% White, 0.35% Black or African American, 2.22% American Indian, 0.24% Asian, 0.07% Native Hawaiian, and 0.99% from two or more races.
