Columbus City is a city located in Platte County, Nebraska, in the Midwestern Region (West North Central) of United States. The population of the city was 20971 as per the 2000 census data. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 21595, It is the tenth largest by population in the U.S. state of Nebraska. The city spans an area of 9.17 sq mi (23.75 square kilometre), of which, 8.97 square miles (23.23 square kilometre) of it is land and 0.19 square miles (0.49 square kilometre) of it is water, making it Nebraska's ninth largest by total area. It is ranks sixth in the size of its inland waterways in Nebraska.

The population density was 2337.3 people per square mile (902.44/kmē), it would be the 29th most densely populated city in the U.S. state of Nebraska. In the city the population was distributed as follows: 28.2% under the age of 18, 8.4% from 18 to 24, 28% from 25 to 44, 20.8% from 45 to 64, and 14.6% who were 65 or older.
