Columbia County is a one of the county from Wisconsin's 72 counties, located in Midwestern Region (East North Central) of United States. As per the 2000 census, county has a population of 52468 inhabitants. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 55196, making it the 26th most populous county in Wisconsin. The county encompasses an area of 795.7 square miles (2060.85 kmē ), of which, 773.79 square miles (2004.11 kmē) of it is land and 21.91 square miles (56.75 kmē) of it is water, giving it the 41st largest by total area among Wisconsin's county.

As of the census of 2000, there were 52468 people, 20439 households, and 14160 families residing in the county. The population density was 67.8 people per square mile (26.18/kmē), making it the 26th most densely populated county in Wisconsin. There were 22685 housing units at an average density of 29.3 per square mile (11.31/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.49 persons, and the average family size was 2.99 persons. In the county the population was spread out, with 25.2% under the age of 18, 7.1% from 18 to 24, 29.9% from 25 to 44, 23.4% from 45 to 64, and 14.4% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 101.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 100.4 males. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 55196, The racial makeup of the county was 97% White, 1.14% Black or African American, 0.5% American Indian, 0.51% Asian, 0.03% Native Hawaiian, and 0.81% from two or more races.
