Columbia County is a county located in the United States of Oregon. According to the 2000 census it had a population of 43560 inhabitants. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 49408, making it the 17th most populous county in Oregon. Its area is just over 688.33 miē (1782.77 kmē), of which, 656.72 square miles (1700.9 kmē) of it is land and 31.61 square miles (81.87 kmē) of it is water, it is the fourth smallest by area in the U.S. state of Oregon.

The population density was 66.3 people per square mile (25.6/kmē), it would be the ninth most densely populated county in the U.S. state of Oregon. The population's age distribution was 27.3% under the age of 18, 7% from 18 to 24, 28.1% from 25 to 44, 26% from 45 to 64, and 11.6% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 100 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 98.1 males. The July 2008 population estimate is 49408, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 46731 White, 272 Black or African American, 683 American Indian, 489 Asian, 59 Native Hawaiian, and 1174 from two or more races.
