Columbia City, Monroe County, Illinois is a city located in the Midwestern Region (East North Central) of United States. According to the 2000 census it had a population of 7922 inhabitants. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 9342, giving it the 240th largest population among Illinois. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 9.43 square miles (24.42 sq km), of which, 9.41 square miles (24.37 sq km) of it is land and 0.02 square miles (0.05 sq km) of it is water, it is the 86th largest by area in the U.S. state of Illinois.

As of the census of 2000, there were 7922 people in the city, organized into 3112 households, and 2219 families living in the city. The population density was 841.5 people per square mile (324.9/kmē), it is 425th least densely populated city in Illinois. There were 3219 housing units at an average density of 342.1 per square mile (132.09/kmē). The average household size was 2.5 and the average family size was 3.01. In the city the population is diverse age-wise, with 25.9% under the age of 18, 6.2% from 18 to 24, 32% from 25 to 44, 20.6% from 45 to 64, and 15.2% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 93.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 88.6 males.
