Colfax County, New Mexico is a county located in the Western Region (Mountain) of United States. Colfax County had an official population of 14189 in 2000. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 12962, It is the tenth smallest in terms of population. The county encompasses an area of 3768.05 sq mi (9759.2 kmē ), of which, 3756.79 square miles (9730.04 kmē) of it is land and 11.26 square miles (29.16 kmē) of it is water, making it New Mexico's 17th largest county by total area. It is ranks sixth in the size of its inland waterways in New Mexico.

As of the census of 2000, there were 14189 people in the county, organized into 5821 households, and 3977 families living in the county. The population density was 3.8 people per square mile (1.47/kmē), giving it the 23rd most densely populated county among the New Mexico. There were 8959 housing units at an average density of 2.4 per square mile (0.93/kmē). The average household size was 2.37 persons, and the average family size was 2.86 persons. In the county the population was distributed as follows: 25.1% under the age of 18, 6.9% from 18 to 24, 24.5% from 25 to 44, 26.5% from 45 to 64, and 16.9% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 102.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 98.3 males. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 12962, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 95.35% White, 0.49% Black or African American, 2.18% American Indian, 0.42% Asian, 0.01% Native Hawaiian, and 1.55% from two or more races.
