Coleman County is a county located in Texas, in the Southern Region (West South Central) of United States. In 2000, the population was 9235. The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 8577, It is the 80th least populous county in the U.S. state of Texas. It has total area of 1281.45 sq mi (3318.94 kmē), of which, 1260.2 square miles (3263.9 kmē) of it is land and 21.25 square miles (55.04 kmē) of it is water, makes it the 35th largest by total area in Texas.

As of the census of 2000, there were 9235 people, 3889 households, and 2608 families residing in the county. The population density was 7.3 people per square mile (2.82/kmē), it is the 66th least populated county in terms of population density. There were 5248 housing units at an average density of 4.2 per square mile (1.62/kmē). The average household size was 2.33 and the average family size was 2.88. In the county the population was distributed as follows: 23.6% under the age of 18, 6.6% from 18 to 24, 22.7% from 25 to 44, 24% from 45 to 64, and 23% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 92.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 88.1 males. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 8577, The racial makeup of the county was 94.89% White, 2.7% Black or African American, 0.72% American Indian, 0.5% Asian, 0.01% Native Hawaiian, and 1.17% from two or more races.
