Cole County is one of the 115 county of Missouri, located towards the Midwestern Region (West North Central) of United States. The population of county in 2000 stood at 71397 as per the Census data. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 74313, giving it the 15th largest population among Missouri's county. The county comprises an area of 399.08 sq mi (1033.61 sq km), of which, 391.44 square miles (1013.82 sq km) of it is land and 7.64 square miles (19.79 sq km) of it is water, it is the fourth smallest by area in the U.S. state of Missouri.

The population density was 182.4 people per square mile (70.43/kmē), making it the tenth most densely populated county in Missouri. There were 28915 housing units at an average density of 73.9 per square mile (28.53/kmē). The average household size was 2.43 and the average family size was 3. In the county Population was distributed with 24.2% under the age of 18, 9.8% from 18 to 24, 32.3% from 25 to 44, 22.4% from 45 to 64, and 11.3% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 105.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 106.5 males. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 74313, The racial makeup of the county was 64335 White, 7764 Black or African American, 257 American Indian, 979 Asian, 30 Native Hawaiian, and 948 from two or more races.
