Cocoa City is one of the city of Brevard County, Florida, located towards the Southern Region (South Atlantic) of United States. The population of the city was 16412 as per the 2000 census data. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 16478, It is the 170th largest by population in the U.S. state of Florida. The city encompasses an area of 9.52 miē (24.66 kmē ), of which, 7.46 square miles (19.32 kmē) of it is land and 2.06 square miles (5.34 kmē) of it is water, it is the 197th largest by area in the U.S. state of Florida.

As of the census of 2000, there were 16412 people, 6939 households, and 4236 families residing in the city. The population density was 2200.3 people per square mile (849.54/kmē), making its Florida's 354th most densely populated city. There were 8064 housing units at an average density of 1081 per square mile (417.38/kmē). The average household size was 2.35 persons, and the average family size was 2.97 persons. In the city the population was spread out, with 26.4% under the age of 18, 8.6% from 18 to 24, 29.1% from 25 to 44, 21.6% from 45 to 64, and 14.3% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 110.5 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 115.8 females. The median age of the city's population was 36.4 years, The median age of males was 35.6 years, for females the median age was 37.3 years. The racial or ethnic makeup of the city was 62.47% White, 32.28% Black or African American, 0.63% American Indian, 0.94% Asian, 0.23% Native Hawaiian, 1.87% from two or more races and 1.58% Other races.
