As per the 2000 census, census designated place has a population of 19388 inhabitants. It is the 66th most populous in the U.S. state of Maryland. The census designated place encompasses an area of 11.43 sq mi (29.6 kmē ), of which, 11.28 square miles (29.22 kmē) of it is land and 0.15 square miles (0.39 kmē) of it is water, making it Maryland's 48th largest by total area.
