Cocke County is a one of the county from Tennessee's 95 counties, located in Southern Region (East South Central) of United States. As of 2000 the population was 33565. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 35688, It is 42nd most populous county in Tennessee. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 443.15 mi˛ (1147.75 sq km), of which, 434.4 square miles (1125.09 sq km) of it is land and 8.75 square miles (22.66 sq km) of it is water, making it the 48th largest by size in Tennessee.

The population density was 77.3 people per square mile (29.85/km˛), it is Tennessee's 39th most densely populated county. There were 15844 housing units at an average density of 36.5 per square mile (14.09/km˛). The average household size was 2.41 persons, and the average family size was 2.87 persons. Age range in the county was well distributed with 22.8% under the age of 18, 8.3% from 18 to 24, 28.8% from 25 to 44, 26.4% from 45 to 64, and 13.6% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 94.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.8 males. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 35688, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 96.01% White, 2.14% Black or African American, 0.45% American Indian, 0.24% Asian, 0.01% Native Hawaiian, and 1.15% from two or more races.
