According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 698158, It is the fourth most populous county in the U.S. state of Georgia. The county comprises an area of 344.51 sq mi (892.28 sq km), of which, 340.15 square miles (880.98 sq km) of it is land and 4.36 square miles (11.29 sq km) of it is water, it is the 81st largest by area in the U.S. state of Georgia.

The population density was 1786.7 people per square mile (689.85/kmē), it is the second most densely populated county in the U.S. state of Georgia. In the Cobb County, 26.1% of the population was under the age of 18, 9% were 18 to 24, 36.5% were 25 to 44, 21.5% were 45 to 64, and 6.9% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 98.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 95.9 males.
