Coal County is a county located in the United States of Oklahoma. According to the latest population census dating back to 2000, the Coal County is home to 6031 inhabitants. The July 2008 population estimate is 5721, giving it the 11th smallest population among Oklahoma's county. It has total area of 521.3 sq mi (1350.16 kmē), of which, 518.22 square miles (1342.18 kmē) of it is land and 3.07 square miles (7.95 kmē) of it is water, making it Oklahoma's fifth smallest county by total area.

As of the census of 2000, there were 6031 people in the county, organized into 2373 households, and 1654 families residing in the county. The population density was 11.6 people per square mile (4.48/kmē), making it the 20th least densely populated county in Oklahoma. There were 2744 housing units at an average density of 5.3 per square mile (2.05/kmē). The average household size was 2.51 persons, and the average family size was 3.05 persons. In the county the population was spread out, with 26.6% under the age of 18, 7.7% from 18 to 24, 25.3% from 25 to 44, 22.5% from 45 to 64, and 17.9% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 96.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.9 males. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 5721, The racial makeup of the county was 73.52% White, 0.86% Black or African American, 18.81% American Indian, 0.31% Asian, 0% Native Hawaiian, and 6.5% from two or more races.
