The county spans an area of 583.14 square miles (1510.33 kmē), of which, 554.15 square miles (1435.24 kmē) of it is land and 28.99 square miles (75.08 kmē) of it is water, it is the 40th largest by area in the U.S. state of Mississippi. It is ranks ninth in the size of its inland waterways in Mississippi.
