Clinton County is a county in the United States of Ohio. As per the 2000 census, county has a population of 40543 inhabitants. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 43200, making it the 55th most populous county in Ohio. It has total area of 412.29 square miles (1067.83 kmē), of which, 410.88 square miles (1064.17 kmē) of it is land and 1.41 square miles (3.65 kmē) of it is water, it is the 19th smallest by area in the U.S. state of Ohio.

As of the census of 2000, there were 40543 people in the county, organized into 15416 households, and 11075 families living in the county. The population density was 98.7 people per square mile (38.11/kmē), giving it the 55th most densely populated county among the Ohio. There were 16577 housing units at an average density of 40.3 per square mile (15.56/kmē). The average household size was 2.56 persons, and the average family size was 3.03 persons. In the Clinton County, 26.4% of the population was under the age of 18, 10.2% were 18 to 24, 29.1% were 25 to 44, 22.1% were 45 to 64, and 12.2% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 96.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.7 males. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 43200, The racial makeup of the county was 41279 White, 1046 Black or African American, 122 American Indian, 245 Asian, 1 Native Hawaiian, and 507 from two or more races.
