Clinton County is a county located in Missouri, in the Midwestern Region (West North Central) of United States. The county has a population of 18979 as per the 2000 census data. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 21094, It is Missouri's 53rd most populous county. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 423.47 square miles (1096.78 square kilometre), of which, 418.76 square miles (1084.58 square kilometre) of it is land and 4.71 square miles (12.2 square kilometre) of it is water, making it Missouri's ninth smallest county by total area.

The population density was 45.3 people per square mile (17.49/kmē), giving it the 37th most densely populated county among the Missouri. There were 7877 housing units at an average density of 18.8 per square mile (7.26/kmē). The average household size was 2.59 persons, and the average family size was 3.03 persons. In the county Population was distributed with 26.8% under the age of 18, 7.4% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 23.5% from 45 to 64, and 14.1% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 96 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.6 males. The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 21094, The racial makeup of the county was 20350 White, 323 Black or African American, 78 American Indian, 81 Asian, 1 Native Hawaiian, and 261 from two or more races.
