As of July 2008, the estimated population was 69726, It is 27th most populous county in Michigan. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 574.57 sq mi (1488.13 square kilometre), of which, 571.46 square miles (1480.07 square kilometre) of it is land and 3.12 square miles (8.08 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 18th smallest by area in the U.S. state of Michigan.
