Clinton County is a county located in Iowa, in the Midwestern Region (West North Central) of United States. In 2000, county's population was 50149 inhabitants. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 48942, making it Iowa's 11th largest county. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 710.19 square miles (1839.38 square kilometre), of which, 694.98 square miles (1799.99 square kilometre) of it is land and 15.21 square miles (39.39 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 14th largest in terms of geographical size. It is ranks eighth in the size of its inland waterways in Iowa.

The population density was 72.2 people per square mile (27.88/kmē), it is the 15th most densely populated county in the U.S. state of Iowa. There were 21585 housing units at an average density of 31.1 per square mile (12.01/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.44 persons, and the average family size was 2.98 persons. In the county the population was spread out, with 25.6% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 27% from 25 to 44, 23.3% from 45 to 64, and 15.8% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 106 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 109.7 females. Its population was estimated at 48942 in July 2008, The racial makeup of the county was 95.45% White, 2.38% Black or African American, 0.31% American Indian, 0.62% Asian, 0.02% Native Hawaiian, and 1.22% from two or more races.
