The city extends throughout a territory of 38.32 mi˛ (99.25 square kilometre ), of which, 35.57 square miles (92.13 square kilometre) of it is land and 2.75 square miles (7.12 square kilometre) of it is water, making it the seventh largest by size in Iowa. It is ranks second in the size of its inland waterways in Iowa.
