Clifton City is a city in the Passaic County, New Jersey, United States. As per the 2000 census, city has a population of 78672 inhabitants. Its population was estimated at 78219 in July 2008, It is the ninth largest in terms of population. The city spans an area of 11.4 sq mi (29.53 square kilometre), of which, 11.3 square miles (29.27 square kilometre) of it is land and 0.1 square miles (0.26 square kilometre) of it is water, giving it the 27th largest by total area among New Jersey.

As of the census of 2000, there were 78672 people, 457 households, and 284 families living in the city. The population density was 6965.2 people per square mile (2689.28/kmē), it is New Jersey's 60th most densely populated city.
