Cleveland County is a county in the United States of North Carolina. The county has a population of 96287 as per the 2000 census data. In July 2008, its estimated population was 99015, It is the 27th largest in terms of population. The county has a total area of 468.6 square miles (1213.67 square kilometre), of which, 464.63 square miles (1203.39 square kilometre) of it is land and 3.97 square miles (10.28 square kilometre) of it is water, making it the 54th largest by size in North Carolina.

The population density was 207.2 people per square mile (80/kmē), making its North Carolina's 19th most densely populated county. In the county the population was spread out, with 25.2% under the age of 18, 8.8% from 18 to 24, 28.8% from 25 to 44, 23.7% from 45 to 64, and 13.5% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 92.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 88.6 males. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 99015, The racial makeup of the county was 76698 White, 20591 Black or African American, 177 American Indian, 747 Asian, 10 Native Hawaiian, and 792 from two or more races.
