Clearwater County is a county in the United States of Minnesota. According to the 2000 census it had a population of 8423 inhabitants. The July 2008 population estimate is 8249, It is the 13th smallest in terms of population. The county extends throughout a territory of 1029.79 square miles (2667.14 sq km ), of which, 994.71 square miles (2576.29 sq km) of it is land and 35.08 square miles (90.86 sq km) of it is water, it is the 21st largest by area in the U.S. state of Minnesota.

As of the census of 2000, there were 8423 people in the county, organized into 3330 households, and 2288 families living in the county. The population density was 8.5 people per square mile (3.28/kmē), it would be the ninth least densely populated county in the U.S. state of Minnesota. There were 4114 housing units at an average density of 4.1 per square mile (1.58/kmē). The average household size was 2.48 and the average family size was 3.02. Age range in the county was well distributed with 26% under the age of 18, 7.6% from 18 to 24, 24.6% from 25 to 44, 24.3% from 45 to 64, and 17.5% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 101.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 100.3 males. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 8249, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 88.86% White, 0.32% Black or African American, 8.79% American Indian, 0.24% Asian, 0.01% Native Hawaiian, and 1.78% from two or more races.
