Clearwater County is one of the 44 county of Idaho, located towards the Western Region (Mountain) of United States. In 2000, county's population was 8930 inhabitants. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 8176, It is the 14th least populous county in the U.S. state of Idaho. The county encompasses an area of 2488.1 mi˛ (6444.15 square kilometre ), of which, 2461.4 square miles (6375 square kilometre) of it is land and 26.7 square miles (69.15 square kilometre) of it is water, making it Idaho's tenth largest county by total area. It is ranks tenth in the size of its inland waterways in Idaho.

As of the census of 2000, there were 8930 people, 3456 households, and 2483 families residing in the county. The population density was 3.6 people per square mile (1.39/km˛), it is Idaho's 13th least densely populated county. There were 4144 housing units at an average density of 1.7 per square mile (0.66/km˛). The average household size was 2.41 people, and the average family size was 2.84 people. In the county the population is diverse age-wise, with 23% under the age of 18, 5.9% from 18 to 24, 26.3% from 25 to 44, 29.2% from 45 to 64, and 15.6% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 113.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 115.9 males. In July 2008, its estimated population was 8176, The racial makeup of the county was 7741 White, 15 Black or African American, 212 American Indian, 40 Asian, 4 Native Hawaiian, and 164 from two or more races.
