Clayton Borough is a borough in the Gloucester County, New Jersey, United States. As of 2000 the population was 7139. In July 2008, its estimated population was 7553, It is the 229th largest in terms of population. The borough encompasses an area of 7.35 square miles (19.04 kmē ), of which, 7.18 square miles (18.6 kmē) of it is land and 0.17 square miles (0.44 kmē) of it is water, making it New Jersey's 62nd largest by total area.

The population density was 994.2 people per square mile (383.86/kmē), it is the 74th least densely populated borough in the U.S. state of New Jersey.
