Clay County is a one of the county from Kentucky's 120 counties, located in Southern Region (East South Central) of United States. As per the 2000 census, county has a population of 24556 inhabitants. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 23930, It is the 49th largest in terms of population. The county comprises an area of 471.08 square miles (1220.09 kmē), of which, 471.01 square miles (1219.91 kmē) of it is land and 0.07 square miles (0.18 kmē) of it is water, makes it the 19th largest by total area in Kentucky.

For every 100 females there were 111.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 112.6 males. The July 2008 population estimate is 23930, The racial makeup of the county was 22424 White, 1210 Black or African American, 55 American Indian, 30 Asian, 4 Native Hawaiian, and 207 from two or more races.
