Clay County is one of the 67 county of Florida, located towards the Southern Region (South Atlantic) of United States. As per the 2000 census, county has a population of 140814 inhabitants. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 184727, It is 24th most populous county in Florida. It is spread over 643.69 sq mi (1667.15 square kilometre), of which, 601.11 square miles (1556.87 square kilometre ) of it is land and 42.59 square miles (110.31 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 20th smallest in terms of geographical size.

According to 2000 Census Bureau, there were 140814 people, 50243 households, and 39389 families living in the county. The population density was 234.3 people per square mile (90.46/kmē), giving it the 21st most densely populated county among the Florida. There were 53748 housing units at an average density of 89.4 per square mile (34.52/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.77 persons, and the average family size was 3.11 persons. In the county the population was distributed as follows: 28% under the age of 18, 7.9% from 18 to 24, 30.3% from 25 to 44, 24% from 45 to 64, and 9.8% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 97 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.2 males. In July 2008, its estimated population was 184727, The racial makeup of the county was 84.72% White, 10.13% Black or African American, 0.43% American Indian, 2.76% Asian, 0.08% Native Hawaiian, and 1.87% from two or more races.
