Clarke County is a county in the United States of Alabama. The population of county in 2000 stood at 27867 as per the Census data. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 26304, It is the 40th largest in terms of population. It covers total area of 1252.51 mi˛ (3243.99 square kilometre), of which, 1238.38 square miles (3207.39 square kilometre) of it is land and 14.13 square miles (36.6 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the fourth largest by area in the U.S. state of Alabama.

In the county Age distribution was 28% under the age of 18, 8.5% from 18 to 24, 27.5% from 25 to 44, 22.5% from 45 to 64, and 13.5% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 111.4 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 118.1 females. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 26304, The racial makeup of the county was 55.16% White, 43.81% Black or African American, 0.26% American Indian, 0.19% Asian, 0% Native Hawaiian, and 0.58% from two or more races.
