It is spread over 376.2 square miles (974.35 sq km), of which, 375.04 square miles (971.35 sq km ) of it is land and 1.16 square miles (3 sq km) of it is water, it is the 62nd largest by area in the U.S. state of Indiana.

The population's age distribution was 24.2% under the age of 18, 9% from 18 to 24, 30.6% from 25 to 44, 23.8% from 45 to 64, and 12.3% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 94.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.7 males. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 106673, The racial makeup of the county was 90.09% White, 7.4% Black or African American, 0.29% American Indian, 0.77% Asian, 0.05% Native Hawaiian, and 1.41% from two or more races.
