Clarendon County is a county in the United States of South Carolina. Clarendon County had an official population of 32502 in 2000. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 33149, It is South Carolina's 30th most populous county. The county has a total area of 695.66 sq mi (1801.75 square kilometre), of which, 607.21 square miles (1572.67 square kilometre) of it is land and 88.46 square miles (229.11 square kilometre) of it is water, making it the 22nd largest by size in South Carolina. It is ranks sixth in the size of its inland waterways in South Carolina.

As of the census of 2000, there were 32502 people, 11812 households, and 8598 families living in the county. The population density was 53.5 people per square mile (20.66/kmē), it is the 15th least densely populated county in the U.S. state of South Carolina. There were 15303 housing units at an average density of 25.2 per square mile (9.73/kmē). The average household size was 2.62 people, and the average family size was 3.12 people. In the county the population was distributed as follows: 25.7% under the age of 18, 10.5% from 18 to 24, 25.1% from 25 to 44, 24.7% from 45 to 64, and 14% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 96.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.2 males. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 33149, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 16089 White, 16573 Black or African American, 121 American Indian, 154 Asian, 8 Native Hawaiian, and 204 from two or more races.
