Claiborne Parish is a parish in the United States of Louisiana. As per the 2000 census, parish has a population of 16851 inhabitants. In July 2008, its estimated population was 16142, It is the 15th least populous parish in the U.S. state of Louisiana. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the parish has a total area of 767.55 sq mi (1987.95 sq km), of which, 754.65 square miles (1954.53 sq km) of it is land and 12.9 square miles (33.41 sq km) of it is water, making it the 27th largest by size in Louisiana.

As of the census of 2000, there were 16851 people in the parish, organized into 6270 households, and 4336 families living in the parish. The population density was 22.3 people per square mile (8.61/kmē), it is the eighth least densely populated parish in the U.S. state of Louisiana. There were 7815 housing units at an average density of 10.4 per square mile (4.02/kmē). The average household size was 2.5 people, and the average family size was 3.07 people. In the parish Age distribution was 25.6% under the age of 18, 8% from 18 to 24, 26.9% from 25 to 44, 22.3% from 45 to 64, and 17.3% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 99.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 98.4 males. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 16142, The racial makeup of the parish was 8244 White, 7733 Black or African American, 28 American Indian, 27 Asian, 4 Native Hawaiian, and 106 from two or more races.
