Claiborne County, Mississippi is a county located in the Southern Region (East South Central) of United States. The population of the county was 11831 as per the 2000 census data. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 10848, It is the 14th smallest in terms of population. The county extends throughout a territory of 501.36 square miles (1298.52 kmē ), of which, 486.77 square miles (1260.73 kmē) of it is land and 14.59 square miles (37.79 kmē) of it is water, it is the 50th largest in terms of geographical size.


As of the census of 2000, there were 11831 residents, 3685 households, and 2532 families in the county. The population density was 24.3 people per square mile (9.38/kmē), making it the 16th least densely populated county in Mississippi. There were 4252 housing units at an average density of 8.7 per square mile (3.36/kmē). The average household size was 2.72 and the average family size was 3.35. In the county the population was spread out, with 26.3% under the age of 18, 23.1% from 18 to 24, 22.3% from 25 to 44, 17.9% from 45 to 64, and 10.5% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 85.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 81.4 males. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 10848, The racial makeup of the county was 15.2% White, 84.06% Black or African American, 0.06% American Indian, 0.19% Asian, 0.01% Native Hawaiian, and 0.48% from two or more races.
