Christian County is a county located in Illinois, in the Midwestern Region (East North Central) of United States. According to the 2000 census it had a population of 35372 inhabitants. In July 2008, its estimated population was 34501, making it the 44th most populous county in Illinois. The county extends throughout a territory of 715.71 sq mi (1853.68 kmē ), of which, 709.06 square miles (1836.46 kmē) of it is land and 6.65 square miles (17.22 kmē) of it is water, making it the 24th largest by size in Illinois.

As of the census of 2000, there were 35372 people, 13921 households, and 9477 families residing in the county. The population density was 49.9 people per square mile (19.27/kmē), it is the 50th most densely populated county in the U.S. state of Illinois. There were 14992 housing units at an average density of 21.1 per square mile (8.15/kmē). The average household size was 2.41 people, and the average family size was 2.94 people. In the county the population was spread out, with 24.1% under the age of 18, 7.6% from 18 to 24, 28.1% from 25 to 44, 23% from 45 to 64, and 17.2% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 99.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 97.3 males. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 34501, The racial makeup of the county was 33050 White, 900 Black or African American, 71 American Indian, 257 Asian, 11 Native Hawaiian, and 212 from two or more races.
