Choctaw County is a United States county located in the United States of Mississippi. As of 2000 the population was 9758. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 9090, It is Mississippi's seventh least populous county. The county comprises an area of 419.81 mi˛ (1087.3 sq km), of which, 419.1 square miles (1085.46 sq km) of it is land and 0.71 square miles (1.84 sq km) of it is water, makes it the 13th smallest by total area in Mississippi.

As of the census of 2000, there were 9758 people, 3686 households, and 2668 families living in the county. The population density was 23.3 people per square mile (9/km˛), giving it the 15th least densely populated county among the Mississippi. There were 4249 housing units at an average density of 10.1 per square mile (3.9/km˛). It has an average household size was 2.56 persons, and the average family size was 3.06 persons. In the county the population was distributed as follows: 27.8% under the age of 18, 8.8% from 18 to 24, 24.9% from 25 to 44, 23.5% from 45 to 64, and 15% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 91.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 88.4 males. The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 9090, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 6139 White, 2855 Black or African American, 34 American Indian, 15 Asian, 1 Native Hawaiian, and 46 from two or more races.
