Chippewa County is one of the 72 county of Wisconsin, located towards the Midwestern Region (East North Central) of United States. According to the latest population census dating back to 2000, the Chippewa County is home to 55195 inhabitants. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 60456, It is Wisconsin's 24th most populous county. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1041.32 sq mi (2697.01 kmē), of which, 1010.43 square miles (2617 kmē) of it is land and 30.89 square miles (80 kmē) of it is water, it is the 20th largest by area in the U.S. state of Wisconsin.

As of the census of 2000, there were 55195 people, 21356 households, and 15006 families residing in the county. The population density was 54.6 people per square mile (21.08/kmē), it is Wisconsin's 32nd most densely populated county. There were 22821 housing units at an average density of 22.6 per square mile (8.73/kmē). The average household size was 2.53 people, and the average family size was 3.03 people. Age range in the county was well distributed with 26.5% under the age of 18, 7.7% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 23.1% from 45 to 64, and 14.6% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 99.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 96 males. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 60456, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 97.52% White, 0.43% Black or African American, 0.44% American Indian, 0.87% Asian, 0.01% Native Hawaiian, and 0.72% from two or more races.
