Chilton County is a county in the United States of Alabama. As per the 2000 census, county has a population of 39593 inhabitants. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 42444, giving it the 30th largest population among Alabama's county. The county extends throughout a territory of 700.76 sq mi (1814.96 sq km ), of which, 693.98 square miles (1797.4 sq km) of it is land and 6.78 square miles (17.56 sq km) of it is water, makes it the 33rd largest by total area in Alabama.

In the county Age distribution was 25.7% under the age of 18, 9.1% from 18 to 24, 29% from 25 to 44, 23.4% from 45 to 64, and 12.9% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 102.2 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 106.5 females. The July 2008 population estimate is 42444, The racial makeup of the county was 87.48% White, 11.13% Black or African American, 0.29% American Indian, 0.35% Asian, 0.01% Native Hawaiian, and 0.74% from two or more races.
